Microneedling

What to Expect After Your First RF Microneedling Session

Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling is one of today’s most popular skin-rejuvenating treatments—and for good reason. It combines the collagen-stimulating benefits of traditional microneedling with the tightening effects of radiofrequency energy to improve texture, tone, and firmness. Whether you’re targeting fine lines, acne scars, or early signs of aging, RF microneedling offers powerful, long-term results with minimal downtime.

If you’re booked for your first session or just considering it, here’s what you can expect after the treatment so you feel confident, informed, and ready to glow.

Immediate Aftereffects (First 24–48 Hours)

Right after your session, it’s normal to experience:

  • Redness and mild swelling, similar to a sunburn
  • Warmth or tightness in the treated area
  • Slight pinpoint scabbing or tiny dots where the needles were applied

Most of these effects fade within a day or two. You might notice some tenderness, especially in thinner areas of the face like the cheeks or forehead, but discomfort is usually mild.

What to Avoid in the First Few Days

To protect your skin and get the best results, you’ll want to avoid:

  • Direct sun exposure – Your skin will be more sensitive, so wear SPF daily and stay out of the sun as much as possible.
  • Harsh products or exfoliants – Skip retinols, acids, and scrubs for at least 3–5 days.
  • Excessive sweating – Hold off on workouts and saunas for a day or two to avoid irritation.

Stick to gentle cleansers, a rich moisturizer, and a mineral-based sunscreen to support healing.

When You’ll See Results

You may notice your skin looks smoother or tighter within a few days, but the most noticeable improvements happen gradually. That’s because RF microneedling works by stimulating collagen and elastin production, which takes time. Most clients see visible results after about 2–4 weeks, with continued improvement over the next several months.

For best results, a series of 3–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart is usually recommended.

Long-Term Benefits

With consistent treatments, RF microneedling can:

  • Reduce the appearance of acne scars and enlarged pores
  • Smooth fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improve firmness and elasticity
  • Brighten overall skin tone and texture
